The Long Run

I looked out in front of me and saw the last stretch, my legs burning, heart pounding, and said to myself I can do this!
Hey, Krystin here, thanks for reading my blog! Alright, so last time I said that I was going to run five miles today, right? Well, I actually ended up running seven. I'll tell you how eventually. First, let's start with the events leading up to that.
Alright, so I woke up at six to the sound of my phone's alarm clock. I'm really happy that I'm having a nice consistent sleep schedule now! :) Anywho... So, I woke up and got dressed in my running clothes, threw on my hat, socks and shoes and some lotion with sunblock. I then made my way downstairs. The house was quiet, all was still. Everyone was on a late schedule due to dog problems in the middle of the night. We ate some breakfast together and then continued to get ready for the day.
At eight I was in the field with the seventy some other members of the team, being introduced. My fried, Kaitlyn, was awesome. We ran the warm-up mile together and chatted while doing so. After the field excercises and stretches I was not feeling up to running five miles. I had already ran one in about ten minutes and my leg muscles hurt from the day before.
We all drank a few sips of Gatorade and then headed out. I ran with Kaitlyn until I was at the five mile mark. She was doing six miles and I had wanted to do that with her as well, but I was too exhausted and the five mile marker meant halfway. I turned around and started heading back. The guys were out running as well, so I ended up running past my brother. We took off our hats and hit them together. It was awesome. Another great thing about the team was that whenever you pass someone or are passed you say "good job". We did this with the guy team as well. So fun.
Alright, this is where the terrible messed-upness comes in. I guess I was ahead of everyone else cause I suck with pacing(I'm a sprinter) and I was running and running, but I didn't see anyone, so I thought I had gone the wrong way. I turned and started going back to the fork in the road. I went the opposite way, then decided that I had been going the right way and had to go all the way back again. So I got an extra mile in there, should've just gone to the six mile point with Kaitlyn. I was dying on the way back, wondering why I was doing such a gruesome sport.
Finally when I returned(and I was in the top fifteen back) I saw the other girls smiling and telling each other good job and then the happy endorphins kicked in. I took sips of my Gatorade and then, after everyone returned, we did stretching and core for a while. It was awesome. The coach talked to us about the schedule for the week and then we put our hands in the middle of the circle we had formed and said our school mascot, "Cougars". It was so fun, even though my legs hurt and I was certain that I was going to die out there.
So, including the warm-up mile, I ran seven miles today! I ran the six for the run pretty fast though. I think that I'm going to be an awesome runner. I want to train and be the best I can. My goal is to run the 5-k in twenty minutes, averaging each mile with a 6 minutes and 45 seconds pace, I believe. I'm certain that I can do it. I was averaging low eight minutes per mile for the five miles together and that was when I got lost and walked around, trying to find my way back. If I have time to walk on my first run, then I can shave a few minutes off after I get good.
Thanks for reading my update! See you guys tomorrow or Monday!

Puma Runner,
Krystin Haser
